When Common Wisdom Is Bad Advice For Business Owners
Stop Copying What The Leaders In Your Field Are Doing
That may sound counterintuitive, and it goes against the grain of what we are often taught – to model what successful people are doing.
How many times have you heard “copy those who have achieved what you want to achieve”?
It sounds like great advice and appears logical, however, it misses out one hugely important element.
An element that is so important that if missed it can mean the difference between success and failure.
Trying to copy what a 6 or 7-figure business owner is doing now when you are struggling to consistently make 3, 4 or 5-figures is a recipe for disaster.
You are not at the same stage of business that they are.
You won’t have the same circumstances and resources and without the same circumstances and resources, you are going to struggle to emulate them.
By this I mean you won’t have the same cash flow and budget, reputation, audience, experience, team, knowledge, personality, authority, target market and objectives.
What is far more relevant, is to model what they were doing when they were at the same stage of business as you are now.
Model what got them from where YOU ARE NOW to where they CURRENTLY are.
It is often said that what gets you to 6-figures in business won’t get you to 7-figures, and what gets you to 7-figures won’t get you to 8-figures.
This makes total sense.
So if you want to get from where you are to where they are, you need to model what got them from where you are to where they are. Not what they are doing to get from where they currently are to where they currently want to go, for example from 6-figures to 7-figures.
