Location Independence – Day 4 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge

Day 4 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge which is about location independence and my definition of it!

You may be wondering why am I doing this challenge, why is it all about a very independent and free lifestyle.

I started the challenge as a way to give me some momentum in starting what is a new blog and website and let’s be honest, who doesn’t like the idea of an independent lifestyle? But why the new website?

Well much as I love my photography business, it is all consuming. When I go on holiday of if I am ever injured or ill then I am not working and there is no money. So this is going to the home for where I develop and grow an income that doesn’t tie me to a geographical location and won’t dry up if for some reason I am out of the game for a while.

Location Independence

My idea of location independence is to be not tied to one place. For most of the time I would want to work where I live, but if I want to spend a month on the Amalfi Coast then I can, and business won’t stop.

As long as I have my laptop, access to an internet connection and my camera then I am good to go. I can still connect and bring value to my clients. The wonders of technology these days means that it doesn’t matter if we are on the opposite side of the world or 10 miles apart we can still meet and see each other virtually. If you work smart, and choose the right business you aren’t tied to the traditional office.

This isn’t some easy option or pie in the sky dream of spending life on one big holiday. You still have to do the work. You have to be ultra focused to get the important things done. You have to work very smart, possibly smarter than you ever done. And disciplined. No skipping work because you fancy a trip to the beach. But there are big upsides too.

The happier you are in your life, the better lifestyle you have the healthier you are. The more creative you are. The happier  you are. You are more motivated too. And all these things mean that you can bring greater value to your clients.

What is your definition of a location independent business or life?
